Social Media for Wedding Inspiration

Social media plays a large part in wedding planning these days! It’s a fabulous resource for newly engaged couples seeking ideas for all aspects of their celebrations, including floral arrangements, venues, reception décor, stationary and more. It’s helpful to gather images of trends you like, and ones you don’t, to share with your planner or florist, so they can get a clear idea of your ultimate wedding day vision. Below we have collected our favorite social media platforms and accounts, along with a few extra tips about the best ways to find inspiration, and how to create your own wedding hashtag!

INSTAGRAM

We won’t lie, we are big fans of “IG” or “The Gram” at @theindigobride (go follow us immediately for some serious inspo!). Who wouldn’t love the endless access to insanely gorgeous photos of weddings, locations, and styles?! Although it was a challenge to determine, we narrowed down our favorite accounts to share with you.

First off, you can’t go wrong with @greenweddingshoes – where we are members! They are known for being shoppable inspiration for your wedding and every day after…from travel, to daily fashion, to home decor and DIYs, they’ll inspire you to enjoy a life well lived! We also adore @junebugweddings – their goal is to empower couples around the world with the inspiration and resources to create a celebration worthy of their love. We love being part of their wedding community as well, and have been named one of Junebug Weddings’ best planners in Oregon! Other accounts that will help make your wedding be as beautiful and authentically you as possible include @brides@100_layercake, @caratsandcake and @modernweddingmagazine

For finding more Instagram accounts organically, we recommend to start by following and scrolling through a range of wedding accounts, then narrow down your favorites once you figure out what the general style of your wedding will be. Each account has a unique aesthetic, so there’s a wedding IG page for every type of couple. You’ll get inspiration for everything from the small details to the overall style of your big day.

Pro Tip: Spend time using the location function, especially if you have already selected your venue! This is a great way to get an idea of what has been done at that particular location in the past. It gives you a look into real life happenings which can help to spark ideas; examples being where to have your first look photos taken, décor placement, or where to set up your dance floor for the reception.

PINTEREST

For most brides-to-be, Pinterest is an integral part of the wedding planning process. In an effort to streamline your experience, we’ve gathered up a few of our favorite wedding accounts to follow on Pinterest. These accounts are hubs for inspiration, so it makes sense that there are seemingly endless mood boards and accounts designed for exactly this purpose.

With their 5 million followers, Wedding Chicks is a stylish wedding blog with inspiration, ideas, and vendor deals for the modern bride. We are also part of their incredible wedding professionals listing! Additional accounts to follow on Pinterest, include Bridal Musing, Ruffled, Magnolia Rouge and BHLDN

Pro Tip: When looking for inspiration on Pinterest, don’t spend all your time on the “For You” suggested pins home page. If you like a pin, click on it and then continue on the “More like this” pages and keep clicking and clicking… that’s where you will find all the creative, unique, and not-overdone ideas!

When starting to dream up your special day, we recommend keeping your wedding planning board as “secret”, there’s nothing more exciting to your wedding guests than the element of surprise. Also, if you book one of our planning packages, this service includes design in which we will curate a Pinterest board specifically based on your style and vision.

HASHTAGS

If you are newly engaged or if you just love wedding inspo, we recommend finding a few hashtags that you like based on their style or look and make sure to follow them! Here’s a few of our favs to start you off: #wedphotoinspiration, #loveintentionally, #weddingtrends, #loveandwildhearts, #weddingplanning, #weddingplanningtips, #junebugweddings, #GWSweddingartist, #weddingdesign.

Another fun and creative way to personalize your day is by creating your very own wedding hashtag! This is an enjoyable way to collect photos from the day from your guests’ perspectives. Your wedding hashtag doesn’t have to be insanely clever or punny, a simple hashtag idea that’s functional and to the point is great too.

Our first recommendation is to obviously start with your names: use your first, last and nicknames as your wedding hashtag starting point. Also, once you’ve decided on the final few options, do a quick check of the wedding hashtag to see if there’s already been something tagged to it and, if so, how many photos. If there’s only a handful of other photos that don’t seem wedding related, go ahead and use it, but if there’s an entire other wedding with the same exact hashtag, you will want to switch it up. From there, start spreading the word – tell your bridal party, add it to your wedding website and even consider creating fun signage for the day-of.
